DEAN HAMMOND Double funeral services for Dean Walfrid Hammond and Vernon Wilson Looper were held Friday, Dec. 27, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Thermopolis. Rev. Harley Pulis officiated at the double service. Kitty McMillen accompanied by Judy Pulis sang "God Understands" and "Sweet By and By". Burial for the boys was held at Riverside Cemetery in Thermopolis. Dean Walfrid Hammond, 15, was born in Thermopolis April 30, 1948, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vern F. Hammond. Having lived in the Thermopolis area all his life, he attended local schools and was above better than average student.  He was a member of the sophomore class at Hot Springs County high school and a member of the swimming team.  He also was prominent in the high school band affairs. Admired and popular with his classmates, he had a ready smile for all he met.
He is survived by his parents; one sister, Vernita Ann of Thermopolis; one maternal grandmother, Mrs. Iris Mansikka; and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hammond, Greybull. Pallbearers were schoolmates, Roger Durham, Gary Bjorklund, Wedg Taylor, Raymond Baird, Neal Nelson and Colin Voigt.
    Honorary bearers were members of the high school swimming team.

TWO DIE AT THERMOPOLIS
    Wyoming's record fatality toll today stood at 179 persons following a pre-Christmas truck-train collision at Thermopolis.
    Dean Hammond, 15, of Thermopolis died at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital Christmas Day of injuries received when a Chicago, Burlington and Quincy passenger train rammed the side of the pickup truck in which he was riding Tuesday.
    Another Thermopolis youth, Vernon Looper, 16, was pronounced dead shortly after the mishap.
    Both victims were hurled from the truck, and authorities were unable to learn which was driving."
